Each year the Pobjoy Mint, a private sector mint that produces mainly non-circulating coins and commemoratives, mints a silver bullion coin with the image of a cat. The breed of cat changes yearly along with the low mintage of these bullion coins, alluring coin collectors to invest in this remarkable series. Representing the face of the nation, Isle of Man, it is appropriate that this breed is featured twice in the collection. The Manx has a genetic mutation wherein its tail is shortened and sometimes, nonexistent. This famous mutation is included on the reverse side of the silver coin, wherein the cat pictured does not have a tail. The Pobjoy Mint uses a number 1 to signify both the weight of the coin and its legal tender value. Queen Elizabeth II is accurately depicted on the obverse of the coin. Her elegant profile is highlighted by intricate lines and creases that showcase what the years have done to her. She still bears the weight of a tiered crown, with her hair curled in its usual style. Surrounding the Queen, the coin series' name, "Isle of Man," and the year of mintage, "2012," are written.
The Pobjoy Mint is a privately owned mint, located in Surrey, England. Their reputation exceeds them with having produced more than 20% of the world's non-circulating coins and commemoratives for central banks and governments. Being a humble establishment, the Pobjoy Mint wanted to honor another small but mighty self-governing establishment. The Isle of Man is independently governed by its residents, although they do depend on the support of Great Britain in times of emergencies. The Isle of Man Silver Cat series best represents the history of the island, along with what it's known for: the Manx cat. This series is great for someone starting out on their journey of coin collecting or someone who has been collecting for years. With low mintages, amazing artwork, and an achievable price, the Isle of Man Silver Cat collection is the perfect fit for any collector!
