A perfect collectible for any desiring collector or investor, the 2016 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle is the ideal size for a gift or a collection starter! Backed by the US government, the 2016 1/4 oz American Gold Eagles have a legal tender value of $10. Not to be confused with the Pre-1933 double eagle, also a $10 gold coin, the 2016 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle exhibits the famous 100 year old design by sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The American Gold Eagles are usually minted upon the demand, which has been record breaking the last few years.
In 1986, the production of the first American Gold Eagle was authorized by the Gold Bullion Act of 1985. The US Mint immediately started the production, unknowing of the legacy they were about to mint. In 2016, the American Gold Eagle celebrates its 30th anniversary, as the nation's official bullion coin. Sticking with the tried and true design of the last 30 years, the US Mint's quality control is heightened for this special birthday.
