The Philadelphia Mint was the first mint facility, to be established in the US, by our Founding Fathers. Along with the first mint being built, a Mint Act was also put into place, regulating what and how coins would be minted. Since the Philadelphia Mint was the first mint, it didn't need to mark its coins with a mint-mark. It took the Philadelphia Mint over 200 years to finally add a mint-mark to their coins. The 2014-P carries both the infamous mint-mark and date of mintage on its rim; a spot many collectors have a difficult finding. Although the US Mint has kept the Sacagawea Dollar's obverse the same, through the years, it has changed the reverse design yearly since 2009. Every year since 2009, the reverse design has depicted a scene from either Sacagawea's historical time frame or other historical events occurring the same time.
