Sacagawea Dollar 2003-D BU

The US Mint didn't produce a successful US dollar until the Morgan silver dollar. After the success of the Morgan over the years, the US Mint set up a tough act to follow. With the minting of the Peace dollar then the Eisenhower and Susan B. Anthony, the US Mint searched endlessly for ways to mint a highly collectible coin. In hopes to save money on minting millions of coins, the US Mint produced the Sacagawea Dollar in 2000 but made efforts not to put it into circulation every year. This decision has resulted in the availability of highly BU or Proof coins, in mint condition. The 2003-D Sacagawea Dollar was minted by the lead producer of coins in the world, the Denver Mint. With the signature "D" mint-mark on the obverse, the Sacagawea Dollar also contains the date of mintage as well.
