  • Description:

Most people don't realize most of US currency is named after the engravers who designed the coins. George T. Morgan is the engraver behind the beautiful Lady Liberty design on the 100 old Morgan silver dollars. Morgan started his engraving career in England and made his way into the US Mint in 1876. There, he worked under the Chief engraver, William Barber, being his assistant engraver. In 1917, Barber passed away, making Morgan the Chief engraver of the US Mint. Your 1880-O Morgan is considered to be almost uncirculated. New Orleans branch of the US Mint stamped all of their Morgans with the "O" mint-mark underneath the eagle on the reverse. This Morgan is in extra fine condition, which means there will be some wear around Lady Liberty's hairline, cheeks, and ear, with the original luster should still be somewhat intact as well.
