  • Description:

The Mexican Libertad series is a highly sought after coin collection since it comes out of the oldest mint in the Americas. The Mexican Mint has been in business since 1535 and has no plans to stop production anytime soon. Established by a Spanish viceroy, Antonio de Mendoza, the Mexican Mint became the first mint in the Americas. The Mexican Mint has become the basis for national modern currency with their silver 1 peso coin. This coin inspired the American silver dollar, the Japanese yen, and the Chinese yuan. The Mexican Libertad series provides a new coin every year with the same design but a different mintage. These coins are .999 silver bullion, in brilliant uncirculated condition, and are packed in individual coin flips. The Mexican Libertad series is consistent in its quality and detail, alluring coin collectors worldwide to start the collection.

The obverse design reveals a tall and prominent winged Victoria, gracefully poised on a pillar. She is only half-covered by a long drape overlapping her bottom half. Her shapely wings extend to the heavens and her arms are open wide, inviting zealous warriors to come to her. Trailing behind her is a beautiful, scenic view of the two volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl. These volcanoes are ancient and are still active to this day. They are included in the obverse design to represent the importance Mexican folklore has in Mexican culture. The words, "1 onza plata pura ley .999," are inscribed around the rim. These words indicate the purity and authenticity of the Libertad series. On the reverse, the Mexican Coat of Arms is displayed to represent Mexico's independence and history. The design features a large eagle, ferociously eating a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. This act symbolizes good defeating evil in every aspect of life. The Mexican Libertad series is a foolproof collection to start for the novice collector.
