  • Description:

Honoring Eisenhower, who passed in 1969, a legislation was passed that allowed his face to be on the obverse on the new dollar. Since the bullion prices were increasing, in 1965, the US Mint was forced to use a copper-nickel combination that cut the amount of silver needed for the coins. The only Eisenhower Dollars that contain 40% silver are the silver proof coins and can still tarnish over time, if not stored properly. The Eisenhower Dollar was minted from 1971-1978, a quite short series compared to the previous dollar collections.

There are 100 circulated pieces included in this poker rack, mixed with dates and mint-marks. The obverse reveals a side portrait of Eisenhower with "Liberty," and "In God We Trust," written beside his picture. Until the Eisenhower dollar, previous US dollar contained the image of Lady Liberty, instead of an actual person. The reverse depicts an eagle landing, with its talons holding its weight and its wings still proudly outstretched. "E Pluribus Unum," is inscribed about the eagle, as well as the "United States of America," and the coin's legal tender value. Apart from being collected by novice collectors, the Eisenhower Dollars have become popularly used in poker games, as tooth fairy gifts, and as a fun way to get kids excited to start collecting coins. Since the Eisenhower Dollar is abundantly available, its premium is extremely low, making it a no brainer for a fun collection!
