The Morgan silver dollar was born in 1878, when assistant engraver of the US Mint designed the coin. This assistant engraver would become Chief engraver 40 years later, George T. Morgan. Morgan grew up learning the ins and outs of engraving coins in England then he moved his talents to the US, where the Mint picked him up. He was also responsible for other coin's designs, such as the Columbian Exposition half dollar. But the Morgan was his namesake and what he became famous for. The Certified Morgan Silver Dollar 1880-S Choice BU Redfield Collection (B) is from the famous silver dollar hoard at the Redfield residence and has been authenticated and comes in a government issued holder.
