  • Description:
Tabaristan was a semi-autonomous region of the Abbasid Caliphate after 760 A.D. Occupying the mountainous region of Northern Iran along the Caspian Sea, it was overseen by a series of governors under the rule of Harun al-Rashid (786-809 A.D.). The coins retained the imagery of the earlier Sassanian types, with a winged crown bust on the obverse, and fire altar on the reverse. These coins are in exceptional condition, AU to Mint State. The coins of Said Ibn Da-Laj are relatively scarce compared to other Tabaristan types.
