  • Description:

Served as the 38th President of the United States, Gerald Ford is the face on the 2016 Presidential Dollar. Born on July 14, 1913, as Leslie Lynch King Jr, in Omaha, Nebraska, to a wool trader. Just 16 days after he was born, Ford's mother left his father and moved to Illinois to live with family there. It is documented that after Ford was born, his father took a knife to his mother and threatened to kill her and her baby. Ford's mother would win full custody 5 months later in a legal battle. Gerald Ford attended the University of Michigan and Yale Law School. Due to the attack on Pearl Harbor, Ford enlisted in the US Naval Reserve and served the country from 1942-1946.

The Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 and features four presidents every year. Beginning with Washington, the Presidential Dollar series is minted in chronological order of the presidency placement. In 2016, Ford shares the year with Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon. These dollars get their unique golden pigment from their metallic composition of brass and copper. The Denver Mint is considered the leader in coin production worldwide and takes pride in its participation in the historical Presidential Dollars. The date and mint-mark can be located on the rim of every brilliant uncirculated dollar. Many collectors enjoy this series, due to its unique color, its interesting history, and the low premiums offered for these dollars! There are 25 brilliant uncirculated coins to a roll and may or may not come in original bank paper.
