The Philadelphia Mint is one of two surviving mints, that originally produced the Morgan silver dollar. This mint is incredibly important to the history of the US and its currency. The Founding Fathers desired for the US to come into its own and establish a means to international commerce. This idea would lead to the first mint facility, based out of the capital at the time, Philadelphia. This facility was open for business in 1792 and to commemorate, the Mint Act was put into place. In order to have guidelines over the currency being issued, the Mint Act's requirements focused on what should be stamped onto the actual coin. For instance, according to the Mint Act, there should be a symbol of Liberty on every piece of currency minted. Your 1883 Morgan is a brilliantly uncirculated coin that has earned the grade of MS64 by NGC.
