The Royal Canadian boasts to have minted the first .9999 pure gold coin in 1982 and is holding tight to that reputation to this day. Although the Gold Maple Leaf was initially minted as a .999 pure gold coin in 1979, the coin program wouldn't see an increase in purity until 1982. The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf offers the same design each year but its security features are consistently updating to the demand of more secure currency. The 2020 Gold Maple Leaf contains the popular hologram mini-maple leaf on its reverse, as well as the radial lines that were first released in 2014 to help protect against counterfeiting.
The 2020 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is pure .9999 gold and in BU condition. The Royal Canadian Mint takes pride in minting bullion products that contain the four 9's of purity. This high gold content results in a much softer coin that needs extra protection against scratching when being stored. The maple leaf is depicted almost everywhere in Canada, from the national flag to the country's hockey team to the state police emblem. It is no surprise that this precious symbol is also represented on the country's bullion coins.
