  • Description:

Continuing the popular 5oz silver coin series, the US Mint has released its fourth ATB coin for 2016. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is highlighted, honoring the late but popular president. Theodore Roosevelt grew up as a sickly child, which led to his many interests as a naturalist and explorer. He was homeschooled all the way until he attended Harvard for college. During his studies, Roosevelt also became a writer about the US military. Losing his wife and mother at the same time, Roosevelt escaped into the wilderness, operating a cattle ranch in the Dakotas to be closer to nature and to write more books. It would be after his pilgrimage that he would take a life in politics more seriously and campaign as Mayor for New York City. The Spanish-American War was when Roosevelt became a national hero and his face was recognized by all Americans. Roosevelt fought for fairness for the average American and regulation of railroads to increase America's working industries.

The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in Western North Dakota, where the Great Plains meet the Badlands. The habitat accommodates mainly elk, bison, and prairie dogs. The park, itself, sprawls into three sections, all of which are connected by the Missouri River. The main attractions are the Painted Canyon and the Maltese Cross Cabin, where Roosevelt resided during his pilgrimage. The America the Beautiful 5oz series honors the smaller quarter series by featuring all of the National Parks in the US. The ATB series gives collectors the chance to invest in silver bullion, while still enjoying lower mintage coins.
