Don Everhart, a mint engraver, designed the obverse of Thomas Jefferson. The talented author is accompanied by his term in office, as well as his name. The reverse honors the Statue of Liberty, since it is the law to include an emblematic symbol of liberty on all US currency. Born and educated in Virginia, Jefferson was born into a family of planters and surveyors. When Jefferson's father passed away, his family of 11 was sent to stay with their guardian; an owner of a large plantation. Jefferson inherited a large amount of the land at the humble age of 21. Thomas Jefferson studied law at the College of William and Mary, which led to his innovative ideas of how the US government should work. Like all of the other Founding Fathers, Jefferson wore many hats but is only remembered for some.
