  • Description:

Only 700,000 San Francisco Morgans were minted in 1889, thus causing many collectors to flock to this specific date. Since Morgan silver dollars were minted at several different mints across the country, each mint claimed the coins they produced by placing a mint-mark on the back of the Morgan, underneath the tail feathers. The "O" mint-mark represents the New Orleans sector of the mint, "CC" stands for the Carson City, Philadelphia doesn't have a mint-mark, and San Francisco uses a "S." Your 1889-S Morgan shines with a luster from its brilliant uncirculated condition. Although the coin is raw, its grade is similar to that of a MS62. Your Morgan contains 90% silver with 10% copper and weighs 26.73 grams, 31.10 grams are in a troy ounce. Lady Liberty is illustrated on the obverse, her face facing the side with her profile accentuated.
