  • Description:

Unless you are an avid collector of the Morgan Silver dollar, you probably don't know of the rocky history that came with minting them. Silver was being freely mined and sold when the Morgan was first introduced. The US Mint made as many as they could with however much silver they had. Since there wasn't any law or regulation on the silver, it was hard for the government to tell what profit they were making from these coins. Between acts trying to control the silver coin production then getting repealed, the Morgan was authorized from 1878 to 1904. The Morgan's last year, 1921, was uneventful wherein an unlimited amount of Morgans were minted but the release of the new Peace dollar was also introduced. The last of the old government reserves of silver were used to finish out the production of the beloved Morgan. Your 1884 Morgan was minted in Philadelphia and has earned a condition of almost uncirculated.
